1) Add 3 + 1/2:
To find the numerator of the resulting fraction, first, we multiply the denominator (2) by the whole number (3), then we add this result to the numerator (1). Lastly, we keep the denominator of the fraction (2).

The sum is 7/2.
Steps for adding a fraction and a whole number
For adding a fraction and a whole number, follow these steps:
- To find the numerator of the resulting fraction, multiply the denominator by the whole number, then, add this result to the numerator.
- Keep the denominator the same, given that the numerator of the resulting fraction is the same as the numerator of the initial fraction.
2) Add 2/3 + 4:
First, we need to find the numerator of the resulting fraction, so we multiply the denominator (3) by the whole number (4), next, we add this result to the numerator (2). Finally, we keep the denominator of the fraction (3).

The answer is 14/3.
